Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons are carried out with a maximum of 6 pupils and we normally have two adults in the pool room (one instructor and one poolside helper where needed).

Lesson are 30mins long.

Pupils with special needs can be accommodated although we would recommend starting with a course of one 2 one lessons to allow them to become accustomed to the surroundings here at Loudoun Mains.

We normally have a waiting list for lessons depending on what day of the week and what time suits the parent/guardian bringing the pupil.

Booking forms can be obtained from Loudoun Mains Reception, by emailing [email protected] or the above link or by phoning 01560321246.

We take babies from as young as six weeks although this is entirely dependant on advice given from each health visitor.

Parent baby/toddler classes require an adult in the water with the baby/toddler and we work with one adult to one baby in the pool, and classes have max 6-8 babies in a group.

Parent/baby and parent/child lessons are 30 minutes long although arriving 10 minutes early would be prudent to allow the baby/child to become accustomed to the surroundings.

Babies do not have to wait until their immunisation programme is complete, but we suggest you do not swim the baby for 4 days after a jab. We recommend that an immunisation programme is followed.

Swimming can have physical, emotional and intellectual benefits for babies. Many parents have commented on the fact that their swimming babies are stronger, feed and sleep easier and develop word association skills early on. Parent and baby courses are also great for socialisation.

Taking babies as young as 6 weeks old to water safety classes helps keep their natural dive reflex alive, which enables them to move freely underwater by holding their breath. This in itself could save your baby’s life one day.

Babies with special needs sometimes really benefit from swimming as it can compliment physiotherapy. Be sure to discuss his or her particular needs with your GP and instructor first as submersions may not always be appropriate for every baby.

It is also great bonding as you are with your baby in the water. We will be teaching you life-saving skills and laying the foundations for a long swim career. Multiple classes can be attended each week should you require.

Traditionally graded lessons

Lessons are offered from age 3. They are graded from 1 to 5 and will lead to a swimmer of excellent ability in all water types and depths. Basic term and conditions:

1. The cost of each lesson is £9.50, which is paid in advance (unless already paid for by standing order) with a 10% discount offered for two or more children.

2. Since there is no minimum number of lessons that can be attended and since we offer you a permanent place, we ask for 2 weeks notice when you decide to stop.

3. Unattended lessons need to be paid for, although we will try to offer you a place in another lesson if there is availability. If we cannot find a suitable slot, we will give you the opportunity to attend a family swim on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon within a fortnight of the missed lesson, with an extension to this timescale being made for two week summer holidays.

4. If a child is unable to attend through a doctors recommendation then exceptions may apply and missed lessons may not need to be paid for. Where there is an extended period we will assess each case individually, however as a rule of thumb we will normally offer 4 x free lessons and a 50% discount after that to keep the place.

5. Children must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian in all areas of Loudoun Mains including the club and grounds, with no children under the age of 16 permitted in the sauna or gymnasiuma at any times.

6. During the Festive Period we stop the lessons for two weeks and these lessons are not charged for. If you are joining at any of these levels an assessment may be necessary.

Parent & toddler lessons

The aim of the parent and toddler swimming lessons is to have the child move towards going into the water on their own. We introduce the use of buoyancy aids, and try to get the children to think and listen for themselves, promoting social skills and pool safety. Swimming offers your toddler a unique sensory experience and develops confidence in the water that lasts a lifetime, as well as truly magical one-to-one time for you and your child. Taught in our lovely warm pool with a maximum of six children, our classes incorporate rhyme, music and movement based on extensive child development research. We also teach invaluable water-safety and personal survival skills in our classes which the children love practicing.

Parent & baby lessons

Our Parent and Baby classes can be your baby’s first professional swim lesson and it will provide a great bonding experience for you and your child. We use a progressive adaptive lesson plan, meaning there are no long block sessions, just a committment to ensure that you get the best value for money and that you both get maximum enjoyment from each class. You can come for 1 lesson or 10, although most people once started stay for much longer than that. We ask for a weekly payment in advance or by standing order and if you miss a class we will try to give you an alternative lesson or even a complimentary family swim on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. That way you get best value for money and don’t pay for something and get nothing back.
